Look no further, L3 Maritime Systems has the job for YOU! We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to support our growing efforts. Maritime Systems has facilities in Leesburg, VA and Ayer, MA. This position can be located in either of these locations.
Broad Function
This senior level position shall independently provide high-level technical expertise in designing power control hardware and software for AC and DC marine electrical systems to meet customer requirements. These responsibilities may include; design studies; technical compliance, customer interface, proposal writing, supplier and manufacturing support.
Your day to day responsibilities include:
Design / specify / configure power and control hardware and software for low and medium voltage AC and DC systems, plus associated systems.
Generate purchase & functional specifications / requirements for items associated with power generation, power distribution and power electronic hardware.
Provide support to business development for proposal development, including: developing specification-compliant power distribution architectures, writing purchase technical specifications, estimating complex engineering activities, writing proposal technical volumes
Develop and design interfaces in order to integrate drive and power generation systems into customer's plant.
Generate engineering technical documentation for the design using schematics, product descriptions, and specifications.
Develop factory testing and commissioning instructions and provide support to the factory test group as needed.
Perform as project engineer for projects as required by:
Develop presentations and deliver to clients.
Establishing monitoring and implementing budget controls.
Establishing schedules and allocating resources to meet requirements.
Provide Estimates to Complete for remaining engineering work.
Act as main interface to customer to establish customer requirements and provide customer with technical information as required.
Monitor progress of, and act as technical interface with suppliers.
Act as design authority in order to direct drafters and act as interface to manufacturing.
Provide technical support for commissioning & testing, and commission & test equipment as required.
Produce project instruction books & provisioning documentation to support supplied equipment / system.
Ensure consistent application of engineering standards, rules and regulations, i.e. ABS, MIL Standards, IEEE, USCG, etc.
Provide technical support to the Manufacturing Floor during first article fabrication, engineering change incorporation and replacement of obsolete components
Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or related discipline
Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience relating to variable frequency drive & control systems and / or power generation & distribution systems is required.
Knowledge & work related experience associated marine power generation, distribution, propulsion and associated regulations desired.
Broad knowledge of precedents, principles and practices in the specialty area is required.
Experience with PLC configuration and programming, component level testing & troubleshooting would be a plus.
Ability to conceptualize and implement performance objectives that meet established requirements.
Ability to make recommendations regarding job methods and departmental procedures.
Prior experience with Systems Engineering disciplines and protocols. Ability to conceptualize, architech, design and specify complex control and communications systems.
Experience leading smaller groups of technical personnel.
Understanding of the Software and System Design and Development processes under SEI Capability Maturity Model Integrated (CMMI) including system documentation, specification, acceptance testing, requirements traceability, etc
Skills, Knowledge and Conditions
Excellent computer skills with strong proficiency in Windows interface, Microsoft Office package (Outlook , Excel , Word , PowerPoint , Project , Access , Visio ). Working knowledge of project management systems and Autocad Electrical. Familiarity and working knowledge of cost based accounting systems. Ability to perform financial analysis of projects and cost estimating.
Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
Participate in development of long range planning for new projects and facilities

Willingness to travel (up to 25%)
Must be able to obtain a security clearance, if required.
